Naver Titles…

Well, you may already have noticed from a mix of us not releasing anything & EGS’s announcements. We’ve been requested to stop… or least that’s how I’m interpreting it. They have not specified any title (actually they have not specified anything). I’ve been silent about this because I was trying to talk to Naver so that we may come to a compromise, but they still haven’t responded.

We’re dropping all Naver titles and will not be scanlating them any further. As thcmpny does not host any content, there’s nothing for thcmpny.com to delete stuff. But if I see that the old reader is still up, I will remove it.

We may however do script only releases. And we may have a javascript that overlays it on their site, similar to how we did the ghost oneshot before if people want to see more of certain series from us.

  1. i read the script but if i want read kubera it have around 200 chapter and the official release is come out every week
that mean if i wanna read the last chapters i should wait 4 years 😐
and all of it was okay if at last they translation was good 😀 i can translate better than them depend on the fact that i start learning korean 4 weeks ago

  2. hi thcmpny! thank u so much for translating webtoons/manhwas for us! I just feel sad you won’t be translating naver webtoons.. 🙁 I don’t like the official english trans. of naver.. also, they update it every week like when will it even catch up to latest releases?! oh no.. this is so bad.. webtoons have been a part of our life already.. *sigh*

  3. i can’t understand why don’t people at naver ask you guys to do the translation or use your translations .

since they have not mentioned any titles , can’t just tell them that you will be doing the translation of comics till they gave a more clear answer?
this way sure is rude but they are not exactly being polite or considerate in this matter.

  4. It seems they finally got some proofreaders! They fixed the series in a hurry, so there are a few issues left, but the translations ‘flow’ well enough now. It seems they do pay some attention to translation feedback, so what are your plans now? Will you offer feedback on their translations as well (now that there are much fewer issues)? Sadly, Kubera still isn’t up to date.

  5. I asked the guys at Naver that I’m worried about their translations a lot (the one that they showed at frankfurter is quite bad) and they answered that they hired local translators. Also, the translations are done under the original author’s supervision.

So if there are any differences from the original comic, it’s official.

  6. Nomore Kubera?!?! Let me go cry in my corner (T_T)
    *sob sob*

I hope oneday English readers won’t be treated like intruders and instead as customers to introduce Korean comic to the world. Geez Naver =/

  7. ughh, i want to thank you guys for all of those years translating tower of god. T^T i still can’t get used to the official translation, like the character’s name etc

  8. thank you all members current & past of TC, for spending your valuable time translating comics to english with painstakingly neat redraws etc.

if i recall right, this website was formed around the Tower of God first and slowly grew to scantalating other webcomics.

it feels like an end of an era and therefore intensely disappointing. while i did read the (slightly quicker but not that clean) translations at other websites, this one always felt like home. and i always read your version of the translation when it came out. also, as a rule, i always went to the original website and went through the untranslated webcomic in all its raw glory.

however, when i visited naver to take a look at the korean raws, i’ve noticed that a few screens would ~always~ fail to load. this was never the case when i read it here.

going to the korean website to read the english translation feels a bit empty. its probably cos i get the feeling naver is more interested in capitalising on a market as opposed to doing something due to a passion. this sudden block from them feels like they’re only interested in money – its not wrong to be interested in money but if you’re ~only~ interested in money, that’s different.

the authors may have had a say in this too but while i can’t really blame them for wanting some reward for their work, i wonder if they would’ve ever realised there was money to be tapped in the western market if nobody translated their series into english and opened a new world for webcomic readers.

it is only due to the efforts and hard work of independents & independent groups that the authors of foreign language webcomics have had any sort of recognition.

your translation work was driven by passion. theirs is more out of commercialism. their translations will never give the same vibe that i felt when reading at this website (or even other translation sites too for that matter). consequentially, the authors’ webcomics will never be regarded the same way as it did till date.

as far as i’m concerned, the tower broke and they all lived happily ever after, the end.

  9. I just realized that in my last post I didn’t get to thank you.

As many have said before, thank you very much for all these years of translations, especially Tower of God. Though I also read other series from you guys, Tower of God was special. There was also something particularly special about continuously using your translations. The continuity gave it more meaning. Even when other random groups that were driven by profit started showing up, I always waited – and would’ve even waited longer – for yours and I’m willing to bet that hundreds others did the same. Your care for this series was amazing and made it as popular as it is today. Your effort that went even beyond translating the chapters (for instance with the blog translations and info dumps at the end of chapters).

On behalf of ToG’s huge fanbase I thank you for all your effort so far.

As to the future, you’d make us happy once again if you could keep putting effort into the series, either through what others are suggesting about the script releases or even just SIU’s blog would be amazing. But if you want to distance yourself from the project out of fear of problems with Naver I understand perfectly well and both my gratitude and respect don’t diminish one bit.

Sad times for ToG fans. I got a bunch of people into ToG. Hell some of them don’t even read manga or watch anime much less had they read a Korean webcomic before. Even then most of them got seriously addicted to it. When I recommended this series I always said the same thing (after explaining what it’s about) “But don’t just read it in a random online reader. If you don’t want to download, go on Batoto dot net and read The Company’s version.”. Actually I’m not even kidding or exaggerating.

Wow now that I look at it, this is one sappy comment. Oh well, I’m not going to delete it now.

  10. Thank you so much for the translations of Tower of God until now, they are by far the best ones out there and the only ones that I read. I was so grateful for The Company Corner and all the extra effort you put into every chapter. I, and several other people I know, would be really glad even with a script only release, since it’s hard to get used to Naver’s official naming (and poor grammar -__-). I understand if you choose to stop translating the series altogether but you will be very sorely missed!

  11. lol, I recently started a poll after Line Webtoon’s recent release, just out of curiosity. So far, if given the option, only 80% of respondents want you back after seeing Line Webtoon’s translations. A total of 1 person (out of over 140 voters) is satisfied with the official translations. xD

  12. I just wanted to say thanks you guys, for everything. This is my only post on your website but I felt like i had to say something. I’ve read your translations close to the start of your translation of TOG and Kubera and you guy’s have never let us readers down. You caught up with these two and added so much to the webtoon translating and viewing community. You even made a reader to better view the Naver site… Seriously you guys do so much for us. Thank for everything.

  13. I also want to echo the thanks given above. You have put more passion and quality into your scans than any group I know of, especially on ToG. Thank you!

Is there any chance that you could continue to release your translations of each chapter’s author’s post and the notes that you have so kindly put at the end of each of your ToG releases? They were so much appreciated, and are what has set this series apart (as superior) from the other series I follow. I would be immensely grateful to keep reading them.

Good luck on your future projects!

  14. How can Naver force a bunch of anons in the internets to stop making new translations? I wonder, why you do that.

  15. This is disheartening to hear, I really loved your Tower of God scanlations because you always included an afterward. Which was nice to know what both the translators and SIU’s thoughts were on that particular chapter.

Not to sound too mush but thanks for your hard work on ToG.

  16. I aggree with Mercuito and thejadmaster, not only your translations, but your notes were great, maybe you could keep posting your thoughts on ToG here?… i mean, from time to time, it wouldn’t need to follow a strict schedule.

Anyway, thanks a lot for all the hard work.

  17. I miss you tc. I’m sorry for what’s happened with naver, and very greatful for everything you have done in the past. I have yet to check out your script releases of tog, but I will be as soon as I have time off from work. Thank you so much for bringing quality translations to readers, you really have given everything you’ve translated a magnificent feel and atmosphere, for lack of a better word. Thank you

  18. Thankyou so much everyone at the company for your great work.
I am very disappointed with the official naver translations. They don’t compare to the quality wording I used to read in ToG.

It is a sad day to find out that you are no longer translating.

The overlay idea sounds awesome. I would definitely use it.

Thankyou for your good work! ThankyouThankyouThankyouThankyouThankyouThankyouThankyouThankyouThankyouThankyouThankyouThankyouThankyouThankyouThankyouThankyouThankyouThankyouThankyouThankyouThankyouThankyouThankyouThankyouThankyouThankyouThankyouThankyouThankyouThankyouThankyouThankyouThankyouThankyou!!!!!!!!

  19. Has anybody else noticed the option to change the translation version in the ToG chapters? There is the option to choose a “fan translation”, even though atm. there is only the “official TL english” availible..

    Where is this heading?

  20. The company releases are 1000000000000000000000000000000000 times better, literally, they are immensely better than shit webtoon releases.

I just reached the chapter where you have stopped translating, the webtoon translation is shit. Not only does it not read as clearly and fluently, i.e., can’t even translate simple sentences properly …, but also your comments and clarification of Korean terms were brilliant.

The freaking connotation of “Slayer candidate” and “Slayer nominee” are complete different. Stupid professional webtoon translators.

You guys are 1000000000000000000000000000000 times better than them, you are really great and thank you for all the work you have put into it.

I will work hard so I could earn a lot of money and be able to compensate you properly for translating got and hopefully get you to translate it further. Wait a few years, I will contact you after I have earned my first million.

Also I am thinking of stopping with tower of god because of awful webtoon translations.

Thank you so much for all your work!!! You are great!!
